My yoga practice has improved massively since I started fusing Clubbells with yoga. Actually not only my yoga practice has got better but also my general strength and conditioning has benefited from it. I started this fusion of weight training & yoga firstly by holding asanas, concentrating in proper alignment & balance, trying to integrate ‘this exterior challenger’ with the challenges of my own body structure. After having found enough amount of strength and stability I moved this fusion into vinyasa flows.
Clubbell Yoga is a strength/yoga fusion style format that emphasizes alignment, balance & core strength. It is a great way to get strength workout while doing yoga. It is mind body exercise that require mental focus, body awareness and precision.
Clubbells are a modern rendition of several different types of weighted clubs used in ancient martial arts tradition. The uses of the club ranged from combat to restorative health and joint strength. It’s shape works like an extension of our bodies. The Unique Balance Scheme of Clubbells forces you to keep the weight inside of its proper groove throughout the entire lift. It challenges you but also helps you! As you got to reach out through it to be able to find your centre, proper alignment and stability, and when it is found, structural body integration is dissolved.
The Clubbell can be easily integrated into traditional series of vinyasa flows. Biomechanically speaking, the Clubbell increases the weight of the lever arm in strength focused yoga poses. Clubbell infused vinyasa greatly increases the amount of time the shoulder stabilizing muscles spend in isometric contraction, therefore producing a training effect. Shoulder muscle strength, muscle endurance and stability will increase over time. The leverage and the force constantly change position along with the strength of the pull throughout the range of motion creating resistance and working your muscles from varying angles. This gives a totally different dynamic effect to the exercise which is impossible to obtain with any other piece of equipment.
I don’t practice Clubbell Yoga to replace other styles of yoga. I do practice as a way to make me stronger in my physical practice and manly to make me a better mover. If you are up to the challenge and want to do something new, get in touch and let’s share a practice or a thought together.
Yours in Flow,
